Julia C H Smith
Specialist Dyslexia Teacher: Trainer: Consultant
Hi, I'm Julia Smith ADG -
a dyslexia specialist working in Hull & the East Riding.
About Me
I’m a qualified specialist dyslexia teacher with over 15 years experience in the education and charity sector. I believe that children with dyslexia deserve an education that enables them to be happy, to fulfil their potential, and which empowers them to understand and utilise their strengths.
From the very beginning Julia took the time to understand my child's unique needs and learning style. Her tailored approach to teaching has made a remarkable difference in my child's confidence and academic performance. Julia is not only highly knowledgeable but also extremely patient and encouraging, creating an environment where my child feels safe to express herself and ask questions. The techniques and strategies employed are creative, engaging and fun. Julia is very easy to talk to and keeps me informed and assured. Working with Julia has been a truly positive experience for us both.

My Story
As a dyslexic individual myself, I am passionate about providing valuable support to children, parents and schools so that children with dyslexia feel that their needs are heard and that they have access to an education which enables them to shine.
My career as a specialist dyslexia teacher and consultant has been born from various skills and experiences which have worked together to inform the work that I do today.
Early in my career, I developed an interest in the arts and the transformative power of creative education. This took me from the charity arts sector into primary school teaching. I loved providing cross-curricular and creative learning opportunities for the children in my care and used these experiences to ensure that all children could access learning and thrive within the classroom. As a result of my expertise, I was invited to provide consultation for other teachers and deliver training to teaching teams.

The longer I worked in primary education I became more aware of how frustrated parents were; they knew how difficult it was becoming to ensure that their child with dyslexia was fully supported. At this point, I decided to undertake training to become a qualified specialist teacher in dyslexia.

Since then, I have delivered training around dyslexia, in person and online, to teaching staff, tutors and parents. I now provide consultation and specialised support across a range of sectors.

I have worked as a specialist tutor for children aged 7-14 years within school settings, people’s homes, and charity teaching centres. I have witnessed first-hand the transformations possible when children are given opportunities to learn in structured, multi-sensory ways which are tailor made to their needs.
